KTM Racing Team rider Byron Dennis returned to the MX2 podium at round six of the 2026 Australian ProMX Championship at Traralgon, overcoming a tough opening race to finish third overall.

Dennis showed race-winning speed throughout the day but crashes in Moto 1 dropped the New South Welshman to seventh after running lap times comparable to the front-runners aboard his KTM 250 SX-F.

He responded in Moto 2 with a composed ride to third, securing the final step of the overall podium with 7-3 moto scores.

The result keeps the 19-year-old third in the MX2 championship standings, 43 points behind the series leader with two rounds remaining.

“It was just a case of over-riding the track in Moto 1,” Dennis said. “I got a bit frustrated and crashed a couple of times. Third in race two got me back on the podium, and I’m happy to be back on the box.”

Teammate Dylan Walsh endured a frustrating day despite showing front-running pace.

After qualifying second, just 0.304 seconds off pole, the New Zealander crashed on the start straight in Moto 1 and fought his way from last to fifth. Another poor start in Moto 2 after spinning on the gate again left him buried in the pack, but another impressive charge earned fourth place and fourth overall for the round.

Walsh remains fourth in the MX2 championship heading into the penultimate round.

“It was a tough day,” Walsh said. “I had good speed, but I just needed to start with the front-runners.”

The team’s MX1 campaign suffered a blow when Zac Watson crashed heavily during qualifying.

Watson had set the fifth-fastest time before the incident ended his weekend before racing began. He is set to undergo further medical assessment, with the extent of his injuries yet to be confirmed.

“It was unfortunate not to line up for the racing,” Watson said. “I had a solid get-off in qualifying and was pretty sore, so we’ll take the next two weeks to recover.”

In the MX3 class, KTM-supported rider Jackson Fuller couldn’t repeat the form that delivered his maiden ProMX victory at Appin. After qualifying fourth in his group, Fuller finished 15th and 10th in the motos to claim 10th overall.

The 2026 Australian ProMX Championship now heads to Conondale in Queensland on July 26 for the penultimate round of the season.
