Alright, we’re two months into our Husqvarna EE 3 experiment and, for those of you who don’t like progress, you might be disappointed to learn, it hasn’t burst into flames, exploded or turned into a paperweight. No, in fact, everything’s going great, which, let’s be honest, isn’t always the case with kids’ dirtbikes. Jax has been riding this thing like it’s his job (if only we could pay a five-year-olds to write all of ADB, it would cost nothing!) and the EE 3 just keeps going. Hats off to Husky for building something that can take the abuse dished out by a five-year-old with more energy than common sense.

We did have one minor hiccup, though. Apparently, leaving the charging cap off while playing “let’s find every puddle and ride straight through it” isn’t ideal. Who knew, right? Water plus electricity equals a not-so-happy bike. The EE 3 threw a fault code faster than you can say, “Oops.” But a bit of drying out and a mental note to actually pay attention next time, and we were back in business. No permanent damage done, and Jax even learned a lesson (sort of).

Ask Jax what he loves about the EE 3 and you’d better settle in. This kid’s got opinions. First up, the brakes. Hydraulic discs front and rear might sound a bit fancy for a kid’s bike, but here we are, living the 2024 life. And they work – too well, sometimes. Watching Jax barrel down a track and pull a perfect brake slide like he’s Robbie Maddison is both terrifying and impressive. But hey, at least he trusts them.

The balance on this bike is spot-on. It’s light, well-distributed and makes Jax feel like he can’t crash. The EE 3 feels stable and predictable.

Then there’s the motor. Strong, easy to use and instant power without any of that “what’s a clutch again?” nonsense. Twist, go, repeat. It’s exactly what you want for a young rider. Jax loves the smooth power delivery.

Riding electric means no engine noise, no angry neighbours and no complaints (well, not about noise, anyway). Jax can tear it up at local parks, and no one bats an eye. If anything, people are curious. It’s nice not having to worry about noise complaints. Plus, Jax gets to be that cool kid with the futuristic dirt bike – an electric celebrity of sorts, if you will.

The EE 3 is by far the best electric dirt bike Jax has ridden. And trust me, this kid has tested a lot: the CFMOTO CX-2E, the Torrot Motocross One, the Beta E-Kinder 16 Pro, and even petrol classics like the Yamaha PW50 and Honda CRF50. The EE 3 is the one that does it all with a level of performance that puts most other electric bikes to shame.

Here’s the thing: we’re not modifying it. Not because we’re lazy (though, maybe a little), but because it doesn’t need anything. For a five-year-old, it’s already dialled in. It’s fast enough, it handles beautifully and it keeps Jax grinning. Why mess with a good thing?

So, that’s where we’re at – two months of riding, learning and a few minor mishaps. The Husqvarna EE 3 is still running strong, Jax is still loving it, and I’m still wondering how I got roped into being a full-time pit crew. But hey, if it keeps the kid happy and entertained, I’m here for it.
