The new M2R X5 is bringing some serious tech to the start gate, headlined by its X-HALO PLUS system. Seven X-HALO PLUS shields create a fourth layer of defence against low-speed and rotational impacts, using material that M2R says changes at a molecular level during an impact to absorb and dissipate energy. Underneath all that clever stuff is either the lightweight MIT PRO fibreglass shell or CARBON MIT PRO aramid-reinforced carbon shell, with strategically positioned reinforcement panels.

M2R hasn’t forgotten that you’ve actually got to wear the thing either. There’s a 3D-shaped comfort liner, multi-density foam, pressure-point-free crown and cheek pads, ESRS emergency removal and EJECT compatibility. Cooling comes via a whopping 11 intake and seven exhaust vents, with a channelled four-piece EPS helping drag cool air through and hot air out. Better still, it’s been created and sized specifically for Australian riders and conditions, so hopefully it understands just how unpleasant a 35-degree race day can get.
