Rockhampton Motocross Club

The volunteer-run, single-circuit club is 600km north of Brisbane on the edge of the picturesque Fitzroy River.

The 1700m motocross track uses the river as a back drop to its well-shaded, tree-studded club grounds.

The 80-year-old club was founded in 1935 and caters for junior and senior riders aged from four (50cc), through to Open, Vets and Ladies categories.

The club’s track committee has ensured the track layout provides a challenge for riders of all levels and ages.

Its base is a mixture of dirt and river sand, creating moist loam.

Juniors find the obstacle-free layout a good learning challenge, while seniors enjoy dust-free riding and revel in the way the track base forms up into rollers, opening extra passing opportunities.

For those wanting to fast-track their riding skills, well-known motocross coach Chris Urquhart holds regular clinics at the club.

The club runs its own championship and this year hosted the opening round of the junior and senior Queensland State Motocross Championships.

Rockhampton is Ford Dale’s home track and he enjoys getting out for a practice session at his old stomping ground when he has the time.

The circuit is open for practice and social riding most weekends. The club’s Facebook page is the best source of information. All riders must be licensed and adhere to MA guidelines. Day licences are available.
