TRAINING WHEELS
FREE TRICK
TROUBLE:
You have you kids riding around on a PW50 with training wheels but you’ve noticed that after a while the training wheels have become loose and the bike is flopping from side to side.
TRICK:
Before each ride you need to check the tension on the training wheel bolts. They get put through a lot of load and can regularly come loose to the point of the training wheel falling right off.
DIFFICULTY: 1
TIME: 1 minute
COST: $0
TOOLS: Spanners
MUDDY CRANK
NOT SO CHEAP TRICK
TROUBLE:
So one of your kids just happened to find the deepest puddle on the track and rode their bike right through the middle drowning the bike and filling the engine with muddy water.
TRICK:
You need to get that engine apart so it can be cleaned out as soon as possible. Don’t let it sit with that water inside the engine or the engine will rust up and corrode like this one and become a costly repair.
DIFFICULTY: 8
TIME: 4-5 hours
COST: $400-$500
TOOLS: A workshop or mechanic capable of separating the engine cases to clean out the muddy water.
STICKY SWITCH
CHEAP TRICK
TROUBLE:
Map switches on the handlebars aren’t a switch that is often being used so it is pretty common for them to get tight or sticky and be hard to flick them.
TRICK:
Take a can of WD40 and spray it into the switch while you flick the switch back and forth. This is usually enough to get the lube through the switch and get it working correctly again.
DIFFICULTY: 1
TIME: 1 minute
COST: $4
TOOLS: WD40
STATOR PROBLEM
CHEAP TRICK
TROUBLE:
The KTM 85 and KTM 125 have the same stator and flywheel. This flywheel has a tin shield inside it that covers the magnets. This shield has a tendency to come loose and pop out like this one and rub into the stator wires causing a misfire or a rubbing noise from inside the flywheel cover.
TRICK:
If this has happened to you then you can either replace the flywheel or fill the back of the tin shield with five minute araldite and push it back into place. Unfortunately though, if the shield has rubbed through the stator wires then you will also need to repair these wires or replace the stator.
DIFFICULTY: 3
TIME: 15 minutes
COST: $5
TOOLS: Sockets, ratchet, flywheel puller, araldite
