After spending a bit of time off the bike due to some broken ribs, I was itching to get back out on the Sherco 300 SEF Factory for a spin. With the recent rain and the cooler temps, the conditions have been about as good as it gets. I was a little nervous heading out for my first ride since busting my ribs up just because you never know how they are going to react to the movements on the bike. Not to mention that one little slip up can easily cause me to land on them again and restart the whole healing process but, it had been four weeks and I’d had enough of sitting around.
So, we headed about an hour north of Sydney to a hidden gem of a spot and set out to have some fun and man, did I do just that. I know it was only four weeks off the bike, but it felt like an eternity, especially when I saw vids and pictures of people riding in primo conditions while I was on the couch. I set off on the Sherco and I instantly forgot about the rib injury, and I was smiling from ear to ear. I was again impressed with how easy the Sherco 300 SEF is to ride and even with the time off and total lack of exercise over the last month, I felt like I could just ride and ride and ride.
The power is so manageable and it makes the bike extremely easy to handle and I felt like I was on rails and could do no wrong. I really enjoy how the KYB suspension works too and it breeds confidence. It was an awesome day on the bike and I need to have a few more days like this one. With the plan to do a few races in the near future, I’m going to have to get some bike fitness back up for that! I’m excited to get out amongst the trees and show what the Sherco 300 SEF can do.
In other news, completely unrelated to bikes but pretty damn exciting, my wife Ash and I recently welcomed a little boy, Harley into the world! I never imagined that I would be a dad and it’s pretty awesome to become one. It’s pretty amazing to see what Ash went through and she is now my hero. Poor girl, she has chased me around the countryside for years while I raced bikes, and now she may have to chase her two boys around for another decade or so.
I have already bought a balance bike for the little dude and who knows, maybe I’ll become a crazy moto dad. For now, the goal is to take him to a race before the year is out and hopefully stand on some kind of podium holding my son. Hopefully, my Sherco 300 SEF Factory can steer me in the right direction and we can achieve this goal. Life is pretty awesome at the moment.
