The last time I tested a Quad Lock Handlebar Mount and Vibration Dampener was in issue #498. That’s over two years ago and a lot has changed.
You might be wondering how a simple phone mount can change in two years but it has and I’m not just talking about the product. The updated Quad Lock Handlebar Mount and Vibration Dampener are even better than the last ones I had.
In 2023 Quad Lock are now sponsoring legendary supercross rider Jett Lawrence and rally-specialist and ADB columnist Daniel Sanders, not to mention an entire trophy truck team. It’s pretty cool to see how far a little Aussie company has come.
I opted to run another Quad Lock on my dirtbike simply because they’re that good. I am unaware of any other phone mount that offers the same connectivity and protection.
The mount I have this time round is all black and metal. The last mount I tested had some plastic on it. You might be wondering what happened to my last mount, well it snapped when my bike was cartwheeled down a cliff. Nothing would’ve survived a crash of that magnitude but I reckon the new mount feels even sturdier. The inner rubber that sits between the mount and the handlebar now has two little teeth in it to grab the mount better so it doesn’t spin.
The Vibration Dampener is designed to stop the camera on the phone from wigging-out from all the vibration. I’ve never actually had this happen to one of my phones when not running the dampener but I’ll err on the side of caution.
So far so good. I ran the medium thickness rubber insert on my Sherco 300 SE Factory handlebar and it was nice and snug. For 2023 you can also get a coloured lever on your Handlebar Mount, you can choose from red, white, blue or black. I’m keen to see how well this slightly updated model lasts and I’d also like to see Jett run one on his supercross bike!
