GRIP GROOVE

TROUBLE

On some models with the levers in a certain position the lever comes in and squashes against the grip pinching the grip over and giving an odd feeling.

TRICK

Cut a section out of the grip with a sharp blade so that the lever lines up with the cutout in the grip. This way the lever will not pinch the grip.

RAGS AND RODS

TROUBLE

When you are changing a piston it is important you get the clips out of the piston without dropping the clips or any other parts into the bottom end of the engine.

TRICK

Stuff the crankcases around the con rod with rags so that it helps hold the con rod still while also preventing the piston circlips or any other parts from falling into the crank cases if dropped.

HOLD THE CHAIN

TROUBLE

Dumping the cam chain in the crank cases can cause the cam chain to come off the cam gear and realigning it without taking the engine apart can be very difficult.

TRICK

Use a cable tie and tie the cam chain up so it doesn’t fall inside the engine. You will still need to cut the cable tie off the cam chain when fitting the barrel and cylinder head but while doing that you can hold tension on the cam chain by hand.

ENGINE BUCKET

TROUBLE

Transporting engines can be difficult as they are heavy and will often wear or fall through the bottom of a cardboard box. Equally hard plastic tubs can crack and break.

TRICK

These rubber tubs by Ezystorage (available through Bunnings) are really tough and durable with strong handles that make it easy to pick up your engine and transport it to your mechanic.
