USED BIKE | 2021 – 2023 GASGAS EC300 | Bike Reviews | Used Bikes

Before you go and buy a new GASGAS two stroke, check out what our Tech Ed Mat Boyd says to look out for in a 2021 - 2023 GASGAS EC300.

Previously to 2021 GASGAS motorcycles were owned and built by GASGAS in Girona, Spain but when the KTM Group bought the rights to GASGAS, KTM sold the manufacturing rights of the old GASGAS models to Reiju who still make them today in Spain. KTM then took the manufacturing of the new model GASGAS motorcycles in house to Austria and a new era of GASGAS motorcycles was born, one that resembles all the same componentry to a KTM. 2021 marks the first GASGAS model released under the ownership of KTM Group and the first model to see electronic fuel injection, electronically controlled power valve and WP suspension. The 2021 – 2023 GASGAS EC 300 is essentially the same as a KTM 300 EXC except for some slightly cheaper components such as triple clamps and brakes to keep the price of the GASGAS lower than a KTM to make it appealing to a slightly cheaper audience.

The brakes on the GASGAS are made by Braktec instead of Brembo which are a cheaper option and the GASGAS has a link type rear shock and some slightly more forgiving suspension valving.

Reliability wise the GASGAS has proven to be just as reliable as the KTM and Husqvarna. The teething problems of the first TBI models have been ironed out and the bikes are tuned much better now from standard. Although one thing our testers have always said is that these models lack top end power which can be fixed quite easily with an aftermarket cylinder head and engine mapping. Our testers have always found the Braktec brakes to be spongey compared to the Brembos but Brembo master cylinders and Brembo brake pads can be fitted to the GASGAS to make the brakes stronger.

When looking at a second hand GASGAS, make sure you take the bike for a run and make sure it starts up off the electric start. Starter motors or starter bendix’s can be expensive. Also make sure it selects all gears as excessive road use can do damage to the gearboxes. These bikes have been known to have a hundred hours or more on a crank with no problems but ask for a service history and check to see when it last had a set of piston and rings.
