In this monthly section of ADB, we catch up with the crew from the DirtBike Burrito Podcast to see who they’ve had on the mic that you can’t miss!

We love the DirtBike Burrito (DBB) Podcast. We see the DBB podcast as an audio version of ADB. They travel the country each month catching up with racers and trailriders to talk about what makes them tick. It makes for some great listening while you’re crunching out the highway kays! Here’s a snapshot of what they got up to last month and the podcasts you don’t want to miss!

WALSHY CAN GO FASTER!

In an interview with DBB, David Walsh shared his experience and strategy during his 2024 Finke Desert Race victory. Walshy explained what he did for preparation, which allowed him to comfortably set himself up in the first half of Day 1 for success over the two-day event. He emphasized his ability to mentally and physically switch off during the return leg, despite maintaining high speeds. Walsh’s composure and strategic approach played a crucial role in his impressive performance, showcasing how his mental and physical resilience contributed to his victory. They talk about how fast Walshy could actually go if pushed on the return leg!

FLYING FILLY

Madi Healy, the first female rider home from Finke, showcased her exceptional talent and dedication in the Finke Desert Race this year. She has invested significant time into her preparation, emerging as a rising star in the desert racing scene. Racing for Elliot Brothers, Madi balances her participation in motocross, supercross, and desert racing, commuting from Victoria to the desert.

Her efforts paid off with an impressive 56th outright in the prologue. Despite her demanding schedule, which includes competing in the Victorian Off-Roads, motocross, supercross and desert racing, Madi continues to be a formidable competitor and one to watch in the future.

JACK OF ALL TRADES

Jack Mentha, an ex-professional AFL player, shared his thrilling experience of racing in Baja at the beginning of the year. He recounted the entire journey, from the initial audition to actually getting the bike. After his Baja teammate’s crash, Mentha was sent out to locate the bike and continue the race, fortunately finding his teammate unharmed. Mentha’s impressive rise in the racing world was highlighted by securing 17th place at the 2023 Finke Desert Race. Despite a crash at this year’s Finke, his determination and adaptability have marked him as a notable competitor in the desert racing scene.

SON OF A GUN

Brad Greenfield, son of the legendary Finke champion and GDR suspension expert Stephen Greenfield, has carved out his own path in the Finke Desert Race scene. Growing up in Alice Springs with a father deeply ingrained in Finke’s history, Brad initially leveraged his dad’s extensive experience. Over time, he developed a unique riding style influenced by various outside sources. Riding for CBS alongside Luke Hayes, Brad’s smooth and distinctive technique sets him apart from his peers. His evolution as a rider, shaped by diverse experiences and mentorships, highlights his individual journey and promising future in the desert racing world.

PUTTING ALZHEIMER’S TO BED

Peter Bedford has an inspiring story marked by his dedication to racing for a noble cause. Having competed in both the Hattah and Finke Desert Races, Bedford rides a Kawasaki for the Alzheimer’s Research Foundation. His participation in these races is not just about the sport; it’s also about raising awareness and funds for Alzheimer’s research, a cause close to his heart since his father’s passing from the disease. To honour this mission, he covers his Kawi in purple graphics and plastics.
