When it comes to riding boots, we’ve all been there – stiff, clunky and about as comfortable as strapping on a pair of concrete blocks. But the Alpinestar Tech 7 boots? They’re a revelation. Somehow, they’ve managed to mix top-notch protection with slipper-like comfort, and I’m here for it.
First up, these boots are tough. The TPU lower shell’s shifter area is as clever as it gets, keeping front roll to a minimum while making gear changes buttery smooth. Add in a reinforced toe zone and metal shank, and you’ve got protection that laughs in the face of rocks, stumps and whatever else the trail throws at you.
On the sides, there’s a double pivot system that makes the boots flexy where they need to be without sacrificing support. The TPU calf protector plate is ready to fend off even the nastiest branches or misplaced footpegs.
It even has a Kevlar-reinforced sole that has a little wear limit indicator that gives you a heads-up when it’s time to sort a new sole.
There has been no breaking-in period. From the moment you buckle them up (with those slick self-aligning polymer buckles) they’re ready to roll. The low-profile pivot system around the ankles is also easy to move in.
The grip on these things is unreal. The rubber insert on the medial panel practically hugs the bike, giving you all the control you need without feeling like you’re clinging on for dear life.
Even with all that ruggedness, they’re not bulky. You can actually feel the ’pegs under your feet, which is a rare treat for boots this protective. Stay tuned for a follow up review.
