This past month has been really good, with everything building up to the first round of AMA Pro Motocross.

We have been going great in training and I am really happy with where I am at. The first round at Hangtown was a tough one. It wasn’t at all what we wanted but there are positives to take away from it. My speed and fitness were good, I felt, but I just struggled with the gnarly track. I haven’t ridden on a track like that in over eight months.

In the first moto my jump out of the gate was really good but the ploughed dirt in front of the gate wasn’t as deep as I anticipated and I moved my body weight too far back too soon and wheelied. That wrecked my start and I was about twentieth. I got back up to seventh behind MIchael Mosiman, took a line I hadn’t taken yet and crashed.

My teammate’s fork leg clean smashed into my butt and, man alive, it hurt.

It’s pretty difficult preparing for the outdoor series in Southern California because none of the tracks here have the conditions that the races do. I feel like training in Europe is a lot easier because all of the tracks are gnarly all the time whereas in So Cal it’s a challenge to find something gnarly and equivalent to what we race on.
