With electric bikes becoming more common we’ve been on the hunt for a better way to keep everything charged at the track or out bush without dragging along a noisy generator. After seeing a bloke fire up a full petrol gennie just to charge a kid’s bike, we figured there had to be a better way. We were sent the Bluetti Elite 300 in a digital shopping catalogue and thought we’d give it a go! We figured, it’s a 3kWh portable power station that should have enough grunt to run bikes, fridges and all the usual camping gear.

First impressions are solid. At around 26kg it’s not exactly light, but compared to some of the 50kg-plus units we’ve seen, and tested, it’s manageable. The grab handles make it easy enough to move around, and the overall build feels tough, like it can handle being thrown in the back of the ute. It’s also got all the ports you actually need: dual 240V outlets for charging bikes, USB-A and USB-C for phones, plus 12V options for your usual camping gear. There’s even solar input, which is a big tick for longer trips where you want to keep things topped up.

We gave it a proper test over the Easter long weekend, running a fridge from Thursday night through to Monday/Tuesday before it dipped below 10%. That’s nearly five days keeping the beers cold and phones charged, which is pretty impressive. From there, we stepped it up and plugged in a kid’s electric dirt bike. Charging a CFMOTO CX-2E from empty to full battery and it used roughly 32% of the Bluetti’s capacity, and that was while still running the fridge all day.

So far, we’re seriously impressed. It’s powerful enough to replace a generator for most of what we do, it’s quiet, easy to use and versatile. Stay tuned as we head to Alice Springs for the Finke Desert race and ask it to run our heated blankets!
